Patent filed for Nikkor lenses

It seems like there is a patent filed for AFS Nikkor 18-135 VR around the end of 2009. There is also a AFS 18-105 VRII. It is said that Nikon might be announcing them as standard lenses for its new dSLR lineup during PMA2010. I totally have no idea why Nikon might re-release these lenses as there are already quite number of 18-xxmm lenses out there.
