I started microstock photography about a year ago but started to submit images more consistently only from half a year ago. Similar to many other microstock photographers, I submit frequently to Shutterstock and Dreamstime amidst a few others.

Recently, I achieved another milestone. I finally achieved $500 in total earnings at Shutterstock. This means that my earnings per image for subscriptions went up from $0.25 to $0.33! This may sound like not worth the effort to many people, but when you reach the point where you get a few hundred downloads a month, you will find that it can form a significant portion of your supplementary income. Besides, on-demand images receive the same upgrade too, from $1.88 to $2.48 per image.

The point in microstock photography lies in earning less for each single image, but instead focusing on profits through quantity. Quantity is the key.
This upgrade gives me more of a motivation than ever to work harder at submitting more content on a consistent basis. For people interested in making a little side income and are looking to get some income from your images to finance an expensive hobby such as photography, i recommend checking out what lies in microstock for you.
